The Kalem Society

Comic

This series, originally titled "The Lovecraft Society," was first launched on January 3, 2008. It ran until October 24, 2008, with a total of 42 pages. After a 6 year hiatus in which I moved twice and changed jobs three times, I can finally make time for my various creative projects, and relaunch the comic.

I decided to change the name for the relaunch because although "The Lovecraft Society" has obvious name recognition, it now feels like cheap name recognition to me. I didn't choose the name to capitalize on that recognition – it's just what my friends and I called our original game setting, which this comic is based on. The name was also a bit misleading, as the comic isn't exclusively about the Cthulhu Mythos.

The Kalem Society is named after the Kalem Club, Lovecraft's coterie of writers.

I'v removed the original series pages. I'm more than a bit embarrassed by the writing and the art in the original "In Medias Res" chapter, but I'm reusing most of the original "The Doubter's Journal" chapter because I'm still pleased with how it turned out.

I'll be updating every day until I've re-posted the re-mastered version of the "The Doubter's Journal" and then settling into a twice a week schedule.

TRANSCRIPT

TITLE: Prologue...

GEORGE (narrating): I'm an investigator – that's the term I'll use for now. I'm about to be briefed on a mission that will make or break my career. I don't think it will go well. Recently, I've been having foreboding dreams...

At times like this, I reflect on my most recent failures. Like my old friend, Steve, for example.
