TRANSCRIPT
STEVE (narrating): 8:23 AM, I pay the price and mutter a word of thanks before I pop open the bottle and choke down my dose.
SIGN (reads): INRI
STEVE (narrating): “I pay the price.” Ain’t that the truth? Wendell Phillips said, “Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.” I haven’t forgotten that. A lot of Americans today have, but not me. I’m going to save them, though. One way or another, I’ll drag you all kicking and screaming out of the safety and comfort of the new Dark Age and show you the light. If I die trying, I’ll be dying for your sins.
You may think I’m being unfair. You probably want to know the sins of which I’m accusing you. Your sin is ignorance. “If a nation expects to be ignorant and free… it expects what never was and never will be.” – Thomas Jefferson. Don’t worry, though, I’m going to redeem all of you.
SIGN (reads): The Doubter's Journal
STEVE (narrating): Now that I have my meds I walk out of that damn squinty, sterile light and into the more gentle light of rapidly approaching dawn. I take the long way to my office – the scenic route. I take random turns and double back a few times, just in case I might be followed, before arriving at the offices of The Doubter’s Journal.
