STEVE (narrating): 11:00 AM:
After an extra long check for car bombs or cut brake lines, I take some more meds to calm my nerves and finally hit the road. By 11:20, I’m on the interstate. I’m not supposed to drive after I take this stuff. It’s supposed to make me really drowsy, but I guess I must be immune to that side effect cause, like I said, I haven’t slept in days. So I figure I’ll be fine.
I need to be able to actually prove some wrong-doing if I’m going to get people’s attention. It won’t be enough to prove that they exist. There won’t be any inquiry over that. So I’m driving to Seattle.
There’s a company based in Seattle that I know to be a front for the Order. Just a few months ago they acquired and completely gutted a company called Seattle Technologies. They didn’t really have much of a chance. About two days before the merger, Seattle Technologies suffered some kind of terrible industrial accident in one of their primary facilities that put the company in dire straights financially. At least a dozen people were killed. Two days before that, Seattle Technologies filed for a series of patents on some kind of revolutionary new computer processor technology.
It’s all very suspicious. It’s also my big chance. If I can prove that agents working for the front company are guilty of sabotage and murder, and that their company is basically funded by the US Military, and that they killed dozens of American citizens all so the Order could get control of the patent on some stupid new type of computer chip… Well, it would be a bigger coup then when the CIA confessed to their involvement in those ridiculously unethical LSD experiments.
The trip is long and uneventful. There were some parts where I’m driving along and I suddenly realize that I can’t remember the last 5 minutes. Those are pretty scary. Did I doze off? I turn on the radio and sing at the top of my lungs most of the way. My voice is terrible; I choke and spit out the words.
Once I get into the city I drive around for a little while until I find a parking garage not to far from the front company.
