Update: 01/29/2011

It's been a little over 2 years since my last real update. In that time I moved to another state and found a new job, but that's not the real reason why I stopped updating. I stopped updating because I didn't know where the hell I was going with this story. Now I do.

When I started I thought it would be fun to make a webcomic. I had a lot of ideas that I was excited about, but I dove into it without any real planning. I now consider Chapter 1 to be a sort of false start. I had a lot of fun making it, but now looking back, the dialogue just makes me cringe and I know I can do better. (Honestly, I recommend new readers skip it entirely, I was still experimenting and now I'm planning on taking a different approach.) I also know that I can do a lot better than my old erratic update schedule.

Of course it's easy for me to just say these things. I don't expect anyone to believe it. I could say something like, "If I haven't gotten serious about this project, would I really be coming back to it after over 2 years?" It doesn't matter, I know that the only way to prove it is to do it.

Since I'm making a fresh start, I've taken down the crappy old high school sketches that I originally put up for filler. I feel that the site makes a better first impression this way. The sketches are still available to see here on the site, just not in the main archive. Eventually, I'll be doing the same thing with Chapter 1, but I can't just pretend it didn't happen, I'm not George Lucas. The original Chapter 1 will be available on the site, just like the sketches.

I'm not announcing an update schedule yet because I'm still working on the scripts for series, but it is coming.

If you're just checking in for the first time in a week or more, click the back button to see the last page of The Doubter's Journal, and read my explanation of how I am determined to keep producing this comic despite the troubles which have led to my erratic update schedule. A friend recently asked me if I was calling it quits, so I must assure anyone who might potentially give a crap that infact I am not quitting at all.

TRANSCRIPT

TITLE: Chapter 2, Exposition Extravaganza

VOICEOVER BY H.P. LOVECRAFT IMPERSONATOR: "The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation of flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age."

NARATOR: -from "The Call of Cthulhu," by H.P. Lovecraft

VOICEOVER BY H.P. LOVECRAFT IMPERSONATOR: "Protecting the island from the seas."

NARATOR: -from the official seal of "The Royal Society of Naval Scholarship, Maritime Research, and Historical Reenactment," known unofficially to its members as The Lovecraft Society
