The Kalem Society

Hello. No Steve's computer did not explode and neither did my mine. I didn't plan on this four week hiatus. It started with a vacation that I thought I could work around, but in the end I wasn't able to finish any extra strips to put up while I was out of town. Then I was incapacitated by crippling food poisoning. Then I lost my internet access for three days.
But hey, now I'm back! And look, so is George. Remember him? From way back when? Some people have asked me when I was going to get around to tying this plot arc into the main storyline. Well I guess you consider them officially tied.
I'm not going to try to catch up on updates during this story arc. I'm just going to pick up where I left off, with two or three comics a week until I finish The Doubter's Journal. I was down to one "catch-up" comic. The count will now be reset to five. Maybe someday I will not only catch up, but actually create a buffer of premade strips to keep me from falling behind. One can dream.
TRANSCRIPT
9:40 AM, I take a deep breath and another dose, and then I turn on the machine.
It whirs to life and I enter my password. As I start typing, I can’t help but think about my friend George. George and I went to high school together back in Louisiana. He never had the chance to go to college. I don’t think his family could afford it. He was pretty brilliant, though, one hell of a journalist. He started writing for the Doubter straight out of school.
He disappeared almost six years ago.
He really believed in the cause, too. He believed that we could make the world a better place. He used to tell me, “Steve, we have a duty. I want to help people.” I wish that he had the chance to write something before whatever got him, got him. Leave us a hint. He was so young when he disappeared.
I guess I’m still pretty young too.
